Dr. Irgau has personally performed over 2,000 bariatric procedures with excellent results. He and his associate Dr. Wynn started and established the Bariatric Surgery Program in two of Delaware’s leading medical centers – Christiana Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. With the addition of Dr. Michael Peters Jr. to CHRIAS, they eventually led the two hospitals to earn the prestigious designation of Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Irgau graduated from Bristol University Medical School in England and has a double fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the American College of Surgeons. He is board certified in General Surgery with the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Irgau is author of numerous publications and academic presentations and was elected Young Surgeon of the Year by the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Surgeons in 2006.
He speaks fluently in Italian, Tigrinya and Amharic. His interests outside medicine include current affairs, cinema and soccer. A resident of Delaware for the last 16 years, he lives in Wilmington with his wife, Nazreth and their four children Absara, Delina, Medhanie and Temesghen.
